The Association of Liberia Community Radio (ALICOR) has successfully concluded a two-day Constitution Review Meeting in Kakata, Margibi County, which took place from November 27 to 28, 2024. This significant event marks the first review and amendment of the Association's constitution since its establishment in 2005.

ALICOR was founded following the inaugural national community radio conference, organized under the USAID-sponsored Mercy Corps Diompilor Project. Since its inception, the association has served as a vital advocate and support system for community radio stations throughout Liberia.

During the opening ceremony, ALICOR President Hector Mulbah spoke on behalf of the Executive Committee, emphasizing the importance of updating the constitution to reflect the current realities of the modern media landscape. He noted that the proposed amendments aim to address the challenges faced by ALICOR, showcase its progress, and ensure its continued relevance in the evolving media environment.

President Mulbah also expressed gratitude to Internews and the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) for their financial support in the constitution review process. He announced that the results of this two-day meeting will be validated in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, in December of 2024.

In his remarks, ALICOR Board Chair Teah Doegmah praised the organization’s resilience in overcoming various challenges over the years. He urged the review committee to approach the process with an open mind and prioritize the best interests of ALICOR.

Emmanuel Johnson, Consultant for the Constitution Review Committee and former ALICOR Secretary General, underscored the necessity of the review. He pointed out that the original constitution, adopted in 2005, was created at a time when community radio stations were significantly fewer in number. Johnson described the review as a crucial step toward rebranding ALICOR and enhancing its role within Liberia’s media sector.

The Association of Liberia Community Radio (ALICOR) serves as the umbrella organization advocating for community radio stations across Liberia. Founded in 2005, ALICOR promotes community media, supports capacity-building initiatives, and champions the voices of local communities.
