ALICOR 2024 Annual Award: Call for Entry

 (Monrovia, January 11, 2024) – The Association of Liberia Community Radios (ALICOR) announces “A CALL FOR ENTRIES’ for its community radio annual award ceremony to honor the outstanding work of journalists in the 15 counties.

 

The CALL FOR ENTRIES which begins Thursday, January 11, 2024, will close on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, by close of business. No entry will be accepted after the deadline. The awards are open to journalists working at community radio stations in the 15 counties.

 

The award ceremony is part of the celebration of WORLD RADIO DAY to be held on February 13, 2024, in Tubmanburg,  Bomi County.

 

Awards will be presented in several categories including Health, Agriculture, Environment, Election, and Human Rights as judged by a carefully selected panel of judges comprising of experienced and knowledgeable journalists and other professionals.

 

All submitted works must bear proof of being broadcast during the period which falls from January 2023 to December 2023.  All entries should be packaged reports formatted in MP3 and should not exceed 7 minutes in length.  Applicants may submit entries to a maximum of two categories. For each category, a maximum of two entries is permitted.

 

Winners of the various Community Radio Excellence Award categories will be announced at the World Radio Day celebration in Tubmanburg, Bomi County on February 13, 2024. 

 

Below are the important dates:

 

Opening of Entries –January 11, 2024

Deadline for submission of entries: January 31, 2024 

Assessment of entries and selection of finalists:  February 1-8, 2024 

Notification of Winners:                                     February 10, 2024 

Announcement of finalists: February 13, 2024 

 

Entries must be submitted via the ALICOR email address: alicorradio@yahoo.com and a copy sent to tbrown@internews.org.  Journalists without internet access in the counties can also submit their entries at the following Radio Stations in each county.

ALICOR Award Categories

 

1.      HEALTH REPORTING

 

1.1.Health Reporting - Identifies the reporter, who provides insight, follow-ups, and impactful reporting on health care services in   the county or community. This includes the actors in the sector, the issues in health care, including preventive and curative issues, the laws affecting and governing the sector, practices, and actions taken to improve health care, as well as pinpointing the weaknesses of the health care system and the efforts to address them.

 

Key Criteria

Accuracy, sourcing, balance, accountability, courage, originality, storytelling, and impact will be considered.

 

2.      Environmental Reporting

 

2.1.Environmental Reporting - Identifies the reporter, who does the most to present insightful reports about environmental matters in all spheres of the county or community. This also includes efforts being made to address environmental concerns among the local population.

 

Key Criteria

Accuracy, sourcing, balance, accountability, courage, originality, storytelling, and impact will be considered.

 

 

3.      Human RIGHTS REPORTING

 

3.1.Human Rights Reporting - Identifies the reporter whose entry provides insight, follow-ups, and impactful reporting about human rights, including laws, protocols, conventions, actions and violations within the Liberian space. This also includes efforts to address these rights and gender related issues.

 

 

Key Criteria

Accuracy, sourcing, balance, accountability, courage, originality, storytelling and impact will be considered.

4.      Election Reporting

 

Election Reporting – Identifies the reporter who provides awareness, and follow-ups, and composes significant reports and stories centering on comprehensive coverage of the just-ended presidential and legislative elections. The report should focus on how citizens' voices were amplified to ensure an inclusive electoral process that promotes democratic governance.

 

Key Criteria

Accuracy, sourcing, balance, accountability, courage, originality, storytelling, and impact will be considered.

 

5.      AGRICULTURE REPORTINGS

 

5.1 Agriculture Reporting- Identifies the reporter who provides awareness, follow-ups and composes significant reports and stories on agriculture activities in the county/ district/community.

 

 

Key Criteria

Accuracy, sourcing, balance, accountability, courage, originality, storytelling, and impact will be considered.
